The Mahjong Masters is a Sydney mahjong site: a written library of the game, plus sets you can rent and merchandise you can wear. The writing is the largest part of it. Sixty-three guides cover mahjong from the first tile you pick up to the discard you agonise over in the fourth round: set-up and seating, what the suits and honour tiles mean, how scoring works across Chinese, Western, Hong Kong, Taiwanese and Singaporean rules, and how stronger players read a table. Who are The Mahjong Masters?
We do three things from Sydney: rent out complete mahjong sets, sell original mahjong merchandise, and publish free guides to the game. The guides are the largest part, sixty-three of them, covering everything from your first tile to advanced play.
Do you deliver, or do I collect the set?
Either. We deliver across Sydney, or you can collect in Wolli Creek. If you are collecting, the exact address is sent to you the day before your booking.
What is included in a rental?
There are three packages: tiles on their own, table and tiles, or table, stools and tiles. Tile sets come with a table mat and racks, so a set arrives ready to play. See the rental options for what each one includes.
How do I book a set?
Email themahjongmasters@gmail.com with your date, time, and whether you want delivery or pick-up. You will then be asked to complete a waiver form and pay by Square or bank transfer. A security bond is collected at handover and refunded in full when the set comes back in good condition.
What happens if I need to cancel?
It depends how much notice you give. More than 48 hours before your booking date is a full refund. Between 24 and 48 hours is a 50% refund. Less than 24 hours, no refund.
I have never played. Where should I start?
The Beginner’s Guides section is written for exactly that. Start with what the tiles mean, then table set-up and seating, then a full hand from the deal to the win. There is also a printable rules cheat sheet to keep beside the table.
Where do you ship merchandise?
Australia-wide. Everything is designed in Australia and made to order, so allow a few days before it ships. New designs are added regularly.
